The Midheaven, or Medium Coeli (MC), is a chart angle at the upper intersection of the local meridian and the ecliptic. Its opposite point is the Imum Coeli.

The Midheaven depends on time, place, and coordinate conventions. In many house systems it is the tenth-house cusp; in others, including whole-sign houses, it can appear elsewhere in the house layout. It is therefore inaccurate to define “Midheaven” and “tenth house” as universal synonyms.

Astrology associates the MC with public direction, visibility, or responsibility. These are reflective meanings, not guarantees of profession or status. Compare with the Ascendant, which is defined by the eastern horizon.
