A succedent house is one of houses 2, 5, 8, or 11. Each follows an angular house in the repeating three-house sequence.

Astrological traditions commonly associate the succedent group with sustaining, consolidating, or developing what an angular house initiates. This is a structural reading convention, not an astronomical property or a ranking of importance.

The label describes a house’s place in the sequence, while the numbered house supplies its specific area of life. A succedent house is followed by a cadent house before the next angular house.
