A house is one of twelve sectors used in an astrological chart to organize placements by areas of life. Signs describe a symbolic style; houses supply a context such as resources, learning, partnership, routine, or public responsibility.
Houses are not physical regions or celestial bodies. Their boundaries are produced by a chosen house system. Different systems divide the chart differently, so a planet near a cusp can receive a different house label without its underlying celestial position changing.
Most house calculations depend on exact time and location, often through the Ascendant and other angles. If birth time is unknown, a birth chart should not present exact houses as fact.
Astrological house meanings are reflective conventions, not scientifically demonstrated predictors of events. A useful reading turns a placement into an open question—for example, a second-house placement might prompt a review of resources or priorities—rather than guaranteeing a financial outcome.
