Where are the planets above me?

Calculate local altitude, azimuth and upcoming rise/set times for the Sun, Moon and planets at a chosen place and moment.

A planet’s zodiac longitude does not tell you where to look above your town. This tool uses a specific observer location to calculate compass direction, height above the horizon and upcoming rises or sets.

Choose a moment

Use the place’s time zone, such as Europe/Warsaw or America/Sao_Paulo. Keep the recorded clock time; do not adjust for summer time yourself.

One fixed download; the selected country or city is never sent in a request.

Place data: GeoNames geographical database,CC BY 4.0. Snapshot retrieved . The cities15000 directory does not include every settlement; manual coordinates and time zones remain available.

No name, email or account is needed. Your details stay on your device. Use the clear button to remove entered details and results.

How to use this tool

Choose a date, local time, time zone and observer coordinates. These coordinates describe the observing place, which can be different from a birthplace. There is no request for device geolocation and no background location lookup.

How to read the result

Azimuth runs clockwise from north, and altitude describes height above or below the horizon. A body above the horizon is geometrically present, but may still be hidden by daylight, terrain, cloud or its faintness. Rise/set searches can return no event within the next day at high latitudes.

Method and limits

The calculation uses a level reference horizon and a standard atmospheric refraction model. It is not a weather forecast or a guarantee of naked-eye visibility. Pluto is included as a calculated body, not presented as an object visible without appropriate equipment. Never observe the Sun without suitable certified protection.

The calculation uses Astronomy Engine 2.1.19 and, where applicable, the project’s offline time-scale and house geometry modules. Mathematical positions and traditional interpretation remain separate.Read the full methodology.
